Proximap Version 1.4.0 Released: Poisson Reconstruction, Addon Support, and Official Linux Launch

We are excited to announce the release of Proximap Version 1.4.0. This major update introduces powerful tools to transform raw spatial data into clean 3D models, streamlines mobile workflows, opens up customization via an addon system, and brings Proximap to the Linux ecosystem.

Transforming Point Clouds with Poisson Reconstruction

Working with raw point clouds can be challenging due to noise and sparse data. In this release, we introduce built in Poisson surface reconstruction. This feature allows you to generate water tight 3D meshes directly from imported point clouds.

The pipeline handles outlier removal automatically and refines the resulting mesh structure. This bridges the gap between raw scan data and production ready 3D models, letting you generate clean geometry without leaving the application.

Streamlined Import from Mobile Devices

Getting your photos and assets from your mobile device to your desktop is now much simpler. The updated mobile import system features a network adapter selector.

This tool detects local network interfaces and ensures a stable connection between devices, even when using local WiFi hotspots or custom network configurations. Files transfer directly over your local network, keeping your data secure and importing your assets instantly.

A Modular Addon System for Developers

Proximap is now extensible. Version 1.4.0 introduces a modular addon system that allows developers to create custom tools and integrate them directly into the sidebar.

The new addon manager handles dynamic UI rendering and supports collapsible panels to keep your workspace clean. Additionally, a unified selection signal system ensures that clicking an object in the viewport or outliner instantly updates active addons, making custom tools feel like native features.

Advanced Feature Matching Algorithms

To improve reconstruction reliability across varied datasets, we have expanded our suite of feature matching algorithms.

Users can now select custom matching routines, customize block sizes to control memory consumption on lower spec hardware, and load custom vocabulary trees. The system also includes FAISS validation for newer COLMAP versions, ensuring that vocabulary tree matching runs smoothly with automatic fallback to exhaustive matching when necessary.

Official Linux Version Now Available

We are officially bringing Proximap to Linux. Beginning with Version 1.4.0, Linux users can run Proximap natively.

We provide prebuilt Debian packages for easy installation on Ubuntu and Debian based systems, with Snap packages built on core24 for distribution across other Linux distributions, coming in Version 1.5.0. The Linux release includes all the features available on other platforms, optimized for performance and system compatibility.
